About The Position

The Student Development Specialist II will serve as an active member of the Campus Engagement and Traditions area within the Department of Student Activities. Primary advising responsibilities include overseeing the administrative processes of pre-event planning, relationship management, outreach, development, risk management and assessment for Student Government Association student organizations and traditions-based programming. Oversees SGA Advisor development and promotes and works to support SGA outreach efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of experience in student affairs work or related specialty area.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field.
  • Two or more years as a Student Development Specialist II or other post-graduate experience in higher education, student affairs, or specific area(s) described in this position description.
  • Significant student group advising, leadership training, and experience in the specific area(s) described in this position description.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect advising support to multiple sponsored-level and recognized organizations, committees, and commissions within the Student Government Association.
  • Provides administrative support to a student group which may include, but is not limited to, leadership development, training and development for students and advisors, risk management activities, programming and logistics for events, recruitment and retention, evaluation of programs, adherence to policies and procedures including judicial processes, financial oversight including budgeting, marketing and communication for various constituent groups, vendor and donor relationships, student travel, technological resources, inventory management, document review, and other tasks as required by the group or department.
  • Responsible for oversight of SGA committee member and advisor development for Student Government Organizations. This includes, but is not limited to, communicating with committee advisor and student leaders, risk management education, organization development, and community development.
  • Responsible for building community and connectedness of students, staff, and stakeholders within the Student Government Association. This includes, but is not limited to, planning events for the organizations, resource building, and establishing relationships between student organizations and existing campus resources.
  • Participate on university, division, and/or department committees and task forces.
