About The Position

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is currently seeking applicants for the Longfellow Young Writers Camp Student Coordinator. This is a residential position that provides direct support to camp participants living in the residence hall, including overnight supervision. The program dates are July 11, 2026 – July 19, 2026, and the compensation is $1,500 for the camp.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, English/Literature, or a closely related field.
  • Expertise in one of the following areas: residential life, career development, or college transitions.
  • Academic excellence in their program of study.
  • Experience working with high school aged students.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Teacher certification is considered an asset.
  • Applicants who require any visa sponsorship support cannot be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee administrative tasks such as camper in-take, directory of students, logistical coordination, and supply requests.
  • Supervises bedtime hours and sleep in the dorm throughout the week.
  • Encourages and guides students' intellectual and personal growth.
  • Provides students with companionship, support, and positive role modeling.
  • Participates in staff meetings to discuss program progress, planning, and student concerns.
