About The Position

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking an Associate Director for the Longfellow Young Writers Camp. This residential position involves collaborating with the Camp Director on logistics, curriculum, and staff organization. The Associate Director will provide administrative direction during the camp session, teach a Creative Writing workshop, and offer feedback to campers. The program dates are July 11, 2026 – July 19, 2026, with compensation of $2,000 for the camp.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Creative Writing, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience working with high school and college-aged adolescents.
  • Reputable, nationally published.
  • Valid driver's license meeting UMS standards.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree (i.e., a Master's degree in English or Creative Writing) is considered an asset for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for camp counselors and teachers.
  • Independently and collaboratively make timely, sensitive decisions that directly impact camp staff and campers on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for procurement of camp supplies.
  • Teach one (1) Creative Writing workshop during the Longfellow Camp and provide feedback to campers on their work.
  • Participate in staff meetings to discuss program progress and planning.
  • Transport campers to offsite activities and emergencies as needed.
