About The Position

The Social Media Student Assistant will assist with developing and maintaining the Fowler School of Engineering’s various social media channels. This position will focus on elevating the school’s reputation by implementing best practices to ensure its social presence is consistent and engaging. The ideal candidate has a passion for social media management and is comfortable with online community engagement.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Chapman University, majoring in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • A strong understanding of the digital landscape, social media platforms, and digital tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent project management skills to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
  • Reliable and communicates well with the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Marketing, Communications, and Engagement Specialist to manage the school’s social media channels.
  • Actively engage with the online community to foster interaction, respond to inquiries, and promote the school’s initiatives and events across social media platforms.
  • Monitor conversations and mentions through social listening; flag opportunities and challenges for the team.
  • Maintain a consistent, on-brand community voice and response approach across channels.
  • Maintaining and ensuring consistency in the school’s brand identity, including brand guidelines, messaging, and visual assets in the various social media channels.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing, Communications, and Engagement Specialist to maintain a content calendar to ensure consistent and timely posting.
  • Regularly meet with the marketing and communications team to develop compelling narratives highlighting the school’s unique value proposition, achievements, and impact.
  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and students to gather content ideas and ensure accurate information is shared.
  • Assist in editing and distributing the college’s email newsletters.
  • Support the team with various administrative duties as needed.
  • Attend Chapman University and Fowler School of Engineering events on behalf of the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
