About The Position

This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function. The Roarin' Buzzsaws exist to actively support and encourage the SFA Lumberjack and Ladyjack Basketball and Women’s Volleyball programs, represent Stephen F. Austin State University in a first-class manner, and serve as musical ambassadors for SFA at athletic, university, and civic functions. Members are expected to pursue the highest standards of musicianship and sportsmanship, while also providing an enjoyable social/musical outlet. Key responsibilities include attendance at performances, managing music digitally, and adhering to uniform and travel guidelines. Members commit to playing during tournaments if assigned, and failure to attend may affect future audition results.

Requirements

Must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
Must sign up and audition for a position with instrument with the Director of the Roarin' Buzzsaws.
No direct experience is required.
Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Black pants (no jeans or leggings), black belt, long black socks, black shoes, and the official Roarin' Buzzsaws polo.
Charged device for reading music during the game/service.
Commitment to play during tournaments if assigned.

Nice To Haves

An E-flip may be purchased through the Buzzsaws if needed.
It is highly encouraged that music be downloaded from Band app and stored locally on the performer’s device to avoid issues with streaming the music via Band app during a service.
Additional attire may be allowed for specific service based on event themes.

Responsibilities

Actively support and encourage the SFA Lumberjack and Ladyjack Basketball and Women’s Volleyball programs.
Represent Stephen F. Austin State University in a first-class manner at all times.
Serve as musical ambassadors for SFA at athletic, university, and civic functions, both home and away.
Provide office assistance to the department by assisting staff in routine clerical duties and responsibilities.
Provide assistance in answering phone calls, routing incoming calls, taking messages, greeting visitors, and directing visitors to appropriate staff member.
Assist in file and records maintenance.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of departmental project/program activities.
Provide general information and/or training regarding project/program.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
