About The Position

The Learning Center is seeking reliable Peer Tutors to provide academic support for student learning and engagement. Tutors help students build confidence and improve academic performance through holistic support, active learning strategies, study skills development, facilitated group study, and individualized instruction. The ideal candidate is a dedicated learner who is comfortable working with students with a range of academic skills and from a variety of backgrounds. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in the discipline. We are looking for Peer Tutors in all subject areas including Math, Science, Accounting, Nursing and Human Services.

Requirements

• Must be a current MVCC student who is enrolled in 6+ credit hours
• Must have completed at least one (1) semester of study, be in good academic and student conduct standing, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Must have an A or B in the course they wish to tutor
• Must be reliable as well as have effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to obtain a recommendation from the instructor of the course they wish to tutor

Responsibilities

• Assist students from diverse backgrounds in understanding course material, clarifying concepts, and improving overall comprehension in the subject area.
• Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and engagement among students, promoting a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
• Help students develop effective study techniques, time management skills, and other strategies to enhance their learning experience and academic success.
• Keep accurate records of tutoring sessions, student progress, and any relevant feedback to support ongoing assessment and improvement.
• Work collaboratively with Learning Center staff and other tutors to ensure a supportive learning environment for all students.
