About The Position

The Student Pantry Coordinator will play a vital role in the successful operation and growth of the university's food and clothing pantry. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership, organizational, marketing, and community engagement skills while directly impacting student well-being. The Coordinator will manage daily operations, maintain inventory, lead promotional efforts, and serve as the primary student ambassador for the program.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an SFBU student in good standing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn website design tools (e.g., Google Sites, Wix, WordPress) and social media platforms.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and take initiative.
  • A genuine commitment to promoting student welfare and reducing hunger/clothing insecurity on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly clean, sort, and organize all donated food items (canned goods, dry goods, fresh produce, etc.) and clothing/accessory items.
  • Monitor expiration dates on food items and the condition of clothing, ensuring all available items are safe and appropriate for distribution.
  • Ensure pantry shelves and clothing racks are consistently stocked, tidy, and arranged in an accessible, respectful manner.
  • Report on inventory levels and suggest replenishment needs for essential supplies (e.g., cleaning materials, bags, organizational bins).
  • Design, build, and continuously update a user-friendly website or app to showcase the types of food and clothing items currently available, operating hours, and eligibility requirements.
  • Implement a simple system to virtually highlight or catalog available items, ensuring discretion and clarity for students viewing the site.
  • Manage the pantry's online communication channels (e.g., social media posts, email updates) to inform the student body about services, donation drives, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Develop and execute creative marketing and promotional strategies to increase awareness and utilization of the pantry among the student population.
  • Coordinate and staff outreach events (e.g., table sits, information sessions, donation drives) to engage the community and destigmatize the use of the pantry.
  • Create appealing and informative flyers, posters, and digital content to promote the pantry's mission and services.
  • Serve as the primary, friendly point of contact for students utilizing the pantry, ensuring a welcoming, non-judgmental, and confidential experience.
  • Strictly adhere to protocols regarding student privacy and data protection.
  • Attend one mandatory monthly shift (e.g., 2-4 hours) at the partner food bank to build relationships, assist with community-wide operations, and better understand the food distribution supply chain.
  • Collect and communicate student feedback regarding pantry needs, preferred items, and service quality to the program supervisor.
  • Act as a representative of the pantry program to various student groups, clubs, and campus departments.
