About The Position

The Student Assistant - First-Generation Success Navigators role involves providing crucial support to students, families, and community members, assisting with student outreach and resource referrals, and contributing to daily office operations. This position also plays a key role in the planning, promotion, and implementation of workshops, signature programs, and outreach events. Additionally, the assistant will serve as a peer role model for first-generation students, supporting mentoring initiatives and leadership programs, and contributing to marketing efforts through social media, promotional campaigns, and content creation. The role also includes assisting professional staff with various initiatives and departmental priorities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at the University of Florida as an undergraduate, graduate or professional student.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
  • Ability to work 10–12 hours per week.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to supporting student success and fostering community.
  • Knowledge of UF campus student organizations and traditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed at least one academic year.
  • Fall & Spring, Spring to Fall consecutive semesters of employment.
  • Availability for Summer is not required.
  • Federal Work Study students are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in leadership, peer mentoring, orientation, student employment, or campus involvement.
  • Familiarity with UF resources and student support services.
  • Ability to support peers with empathy, professionalism and clarity.
  • Experience with public speaking, customer service, event planning, or outreach.
  • Techy savvy and knowledge of social media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a welcoming first point of contact for students, family and community members.
  • Assist with student outreach, resource referrals, and front-line support.
  • Support daily office operations, student communications, and engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain resource materials and assist with data entry and tracking.
  • Assist with planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of workshops, signature programs and outreach.
  • Represent the Center at resource fairs and outreach events.
  • Assist with event logistics, room setup, attendance tracking, and participant engagement.
  • Serve as a peer role model for first-generation students.
  • Support mentoring initiatives, leadership programs, and student success campaigns.
  • Share student perspectives and identify emerging student needs.
  • Peer to Peer Success Coaching.
  • Assist with social media, promotional campaigns, newsletters, and storytelling efforts.
  • Create content highlighting student experiences and opportunities.
  • Support special projects that advance Center priorities.
  • Assist professional staff with additional initiatives and departmental priorities.
