About The Position

This position is accountable for coordinating the Student Assistance initiative within their regional area and acts as liaison between Department of Human Services Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS), Department of Education (PDE), and Department of Drug & Alcohol Programs (DDAP), the local school district(s), community agencies and local county government. This position represents the PA Network for Student Assistance Services (PNSAS) at all levels locally within each region, and at the statewide level when assigned. The position reports to the Assistant to Statewide Mental Health (MH) Student Assistance Program (SAP) Coordinator and fulfills both regional and statewide duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum BA, BS in social services or a related field.
  • Minimum five years’ experience working with or on behalf of children/adolescents in a clinical and/or school setting.
  • Working knowledge/experience with SAP in Pennsylvania.
  • Working knowledge of community support agencies (MH, BH and DA) and educational systems.
  • Working knowledge of county government systems.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of software applications and productivity platforms, including Microsoft 365 (e.g., Forms, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canva.
  • Reside within the region being served.
  • Valid PA driver’s license.
  • Adequate and stable home-based internet service.
  • Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
  • School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Student Assistance initiative within their regional area.
  • Act as liaison between state departments (OMHSAS, PDE, DDAP), local school districts, community agencies, and local county government.
  • Represent PNSAS at local and statewide levels.
  • Work closely with county, agency, and district staff in their region.
  • Attend county coordination meetings and facilitate meetings where coordination is needed.
  • Provide SAP updates from state departments and monitor the functioning of the collaborative SAP system within each county.
  • Attend other collaborative meetings related to SAP and other initiatives (e.g., suicide prevention, school safety, MTSS).
  • Provide technical assistance to county/joinder coordination teams, district councils, school districts, intermediate units, mental health/drug and alcohol agencies, and other child serving systems.
  • Provide resources to enhance K-12 student assistance efforts.
  • Promote local problem-solving efforts to enhance K-12 student assistance programming.
  • Monitor and provide ongoing technical assistance to assigned PA Approved SAP Training Providers (PASTPs).
  • Maintain computer files of training participants from PASTPs in the region.
  • Maintain a work home office location and perform duties related to office organization.
  • Maintain electronic records related to SAP and PASTPs within the geographic location.
  • Ensure all communication is effective and professional.
  • Assess training and other SAP related needs of the region.
  • Facilitate training, provide consultation, and/or updates for PASTPs, mental health/drug and alcohol SAP liaisons, K-12 student assistance teams, and other child-servicing systems.
  • Attend MH SAP staff and PNSAS staff meetings.
  • Attend PASTP meetings hosted by PNSAS.
  • Lead and/or participate in committees and projects with statewide policy implications.
  • Participate in the policy and program development aspects of Pennsylvania’s Student Assistance Program.
  • Participate in Pennsylvania Association of Student Assistance Professionals (PASAP) activities.
  • Present workshops, develop training designs, or participate in child-serving systems training events or conferences.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities relative to the regional coordinator role.
