About The Position

The Special Events Manager assists in the oversight of the planning, execution, and evaluation of Student Activities events throughout the semester, as well as leading events and overseeing the budget of events. The Special Events Manager will also supervise student workers.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree from an accredited university
  • 2+ years’ experience in event planning or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information in an articulate and professional manner
  • Excellent public communication skills with the ability to represent Liberty University in a professional manner to a variety of business, government and community customers and associates
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically
  • Basic computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • To obtain LU-approved driver certification, individuals must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license with a minimum of five (5) years of documented driving history, and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Management/supervisory experience
  • 1+ years’ professional experience in an event planning position
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the planning of approximately 80 Student Activities events each year, including determining logistics, budgets, and staffing plans.
  • Overseeing the execution of the event calendar by working various events throughout the semester including Homecoming Weekend, CFAW concerts, Coffeehouse, Block Party, Fall Fest, Christmas in Lights, and other events hosted by Student Activities.
  • Directly overseeing a team of student employees, including hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and evaluating.
  • Working within budgets provided by the Assistant Director of Student Activities and managing purchasing for events.
  • Communicating with university departments such as Events, Grounds, LUPD, Event Production, and more to ensure event logistics are executed properly.
  • Contributing to the overall creative vision of Student Activities events, specifically Coffeehouse, Block Party, Fall Fest, and Christmas in Lights.
  • Overseeing the cleanliness, organization, safety, and functionality of the Student Activities facilities, including the LaHaye Event Space, Workshop, and Green Room.
  • Remaining up to date on industry standards and performance benchmarks and ensuring that programming and events remain effective and current.
  • Overseeing all survey administration, analysis, and adjusting events as necessary.
  • Performing all other tasks assigned by the Assistant Director of Student Activities.
  • Working effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
  • Occasionally managing events during evening, nights, or long weekend hours.
