About The Position

Focus Factory Training (D794) is seeking an organized, self-motivated Structural Welding Instructor to provide onsite support for strategic sourcing initiatives at the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Focus Factories. The instructor reports to the Chief of Training for Strategic Sourcing at the Rhoads site and joins a team that trains supplier staff in structural welding processes, wire types, and other welding-related topics. The role requires a strong commitment to safety and procedural compliance, initiative, effective written and verbal communication, and a friendly, customer-service-oriented approach. The instructor will help develop themselves and others while managing multiple responsibilities. The position generally works first shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility to adjust hours to support second and third shifts. Additional overtime, including weekends, may be directed. The role requires approximately 20% or more annual business travel.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 4 years of welding trade experience.
At least 2 years of work experience at Electric Boat.
Formal or informal instructing or teaching experience.
Leadership experience, such as working leader or MDU experience.
Ability to prioritize and complete multiple complex assignments.
Ability to direct activities in classroom and workshop environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Willingness and ability to think critically and solve problems.
Ability to engage professionally with supplier staff.
Comfort with new teaching technologies and willingness to adapt to new teaching approaches.
Ability to work general first-shift hours, with flexibility to support second and third shifts as needed.
Ability to work additional overtime as directed, including weekends.
Ability to support approximately 20% or more annual business travel.
Ability to meet the listed physical qualifications: color vision, kneeling, medium lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, and twisting.
Ability to work in the listed environmental conditions: cold, dry, dusty, fumes, hot, inside, outside, and wet.

Nice To Haves

Advanced educational coursework, certifications, an associate degree, or other advanced education degrees.
Proficiency in three or more welding processes.
Experience with non-destructive testing, AWPSS, and SRT.
Experience with business systems such as SRT/LMS, PQS, and ATA.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, and OneNote.
Business travel or EWA experience.
Proficiency with virtual and/or remote technologies.

Responsibilities

Instruct classroom courses related to welding, including Workmanship, AWPSS, and Safety Briefs.
Instruct classroom courses related to structural topics.
Provide quality oversight of supplier-embedded instructors to support site training needs.
Direct and assess hands-on practice and testing.
Enforce safety rules and regulations during training and deck-plate audits.
Assess student performance and identify nonconformance with policies, procedures, and technical documents.
Support course-content reviews and related activities.
Conduct assessments as needed or scheduled.
Manage class rosters and training OQE submittal paperwork.
Meet with Focus Factory Leadership about student performance as needed.
Grade tests and quizzes consistently to assess understanding and retention of training topics.
Communicate with team members to advance work and raise issues.
Support special training projects and Training department goals and objectives, along with other assigned responsibilities.
Complete and maintain NDT requirements for Welding Qualifications.
Learn and take on additional responsibilities and duties as needed.
