About The Position

This position involves welding all types of steel skids and structures according to drawings, specifications, and industry standards. The role requires interpreting diagrams to determine appropriate welding processes, maintaining stringent tolerances, and working with both carbon and stainless steel. The welder will utilize a variety of hand tools, stationary tools, and welding machines, including carbon arc gougers and flame cutting torches. Operation of lifting equipment such as overhead and jib cranes, including rigging experience, is also a key part of the job. The position requires the ability to work independently or in a group with minimal supervision, offer and seek advice for technical problem-solving, and report issues to a supervisor. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to company procedures, reporting unsafe conditions, and understanding oral and written instructions. Effective working relationships with all departments and workers are essential, as is active participation in employee development.

Requirements

  • High school education (GED)
  • Ability to read tape measures and rulers in increments of 1/16”
  • Basic mathematic ability to add and subtract fractions, decimals and whole numbers.
  • Must have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a fabrication and weld shop.
  • Must be familiar with Safety and OSHA requirements within a welding environment.
  • Weld to ASME code and 100%25 x-ray.
  • Must pass weld test using MIG/Flux Core, 1” Plate, 3-G position weld.
  • Relies on instructions in terms of what and how work is to be done, as well as why it is done, within established policies and procedures.
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
  • Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds.
  • Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, and safety work boots.

Responsibilities

  • Welds all types of steel skids and structures using drawings, specifications and industry standards.
  • Interprets drawing, specifications and diagrams to determine appropriate welding process.
  • Measures accurately with the ability to maintain stringent tolerances at all times.
  • Welds carbon and stainless steel.
  • Uses a variety of portable hand, electric and air powered tools such as grinders, drills and band saws.
  • Uses welding machines, carbon arc gougers, flame cutting torch.
  • Uses stationary tools such as bench grinder, iron worker, drill press and chop saw.
  • Operates lifting equipment such as overhead cranes and jib cranes which is inclusive of rigging experience.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as required.
  • Ability to work independently or with a group with minimal supervision.
  • Offers and seeks advice from others to help make technically sound decisions or solve problems.
  • Reports problems to line supervisor for assistance.
  • Perform job duties in a safe manner and according to company safety procedures.
  • Reports potentially unsafe equipment and safety hazards to supervisor for immediate resolution.
  • Understands and follows oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments and workers.
  • Actively participates in the development of other employees.
  • Performs the above and other duties as required with minimal supervision.
