About The Position

Colorado School of Mines is seeking a skilled Structural Trades II professional to join their Facilities Management team. This position is essential for maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of the campus by performing advanced building maintenance, repairs, renovations, and preventative maintenance activities across a wide variety of facilities. Requirements

  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned, including experience performing building maintenance, repair, renovation, or construction work.
  • Experience with advanced drywall repair, finishing, and painting techniques.
  • Experience with carpentry and general building repairs.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and computerized work order systems.
  • Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve complex building maintenance issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, contractors, and campus stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to lead by example and assist in mentoring or training others.
  • Ability to adapt to changing field conditions and operational needs.
  • Ability to lift, carry, climb, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate tools, equipment, ladders, and maintenance vehicles.
  • Ability to work in construction and maintenance environments.
  • Residency Requirement: Must be a resident of the State of Colorado at the time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on structural building systems and components, including drywall installation, repair, finishing, and advanced painting techniques.
  • Conduct carpentry repairs such as framing, trim work, shelving, cabinetry, and general building repairs.
  • Install whiteboards, bulletin boards, signage, artwork, fixtures, and other building components.
  • Perform repairs on flooring, walls, ceilings, doors, and windows.
  • Address roofing, siding, gutter, masonry, concrete, and exterior building repairs.
  • Conduct weatherproofing and building envelope maintenance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and corrective repairs.
  • Provide support for renovation and special projects.
  • Participate in emergency response activities as needed.
  • Perform minor furniture, appliance, and equipment repairs.
  • Independently diagnose facility issues, determine appropriate repair methods, select materials and equipment, and complete projects safely and efficiently.
  • Shovel snow and clear walkways during winter weather events to ensure campus safety.
  • Apply ice melt appropriately and operate snow blowers and other assigned equipment.
  • Support campus operations and special assignments as needed.
  • Accurately document labor hours, materials used, completed work activities, and preventative maintenance tasks using the university's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
