Structural Steel Welder
About The Position
Capital Professional Staffing is recruiting for experienced Structural Steel Welders for the night shift of a growing structural steel and industrial fabrication operation in Tyler, Texas. These are production fabrication positions requiring previous structural steel or heavy metal fabrication shop experience. Candidates must have strong wire-feed Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) experience and be capable of producing quality structural welds in a fast-paced fabrication environment. The company has invested in new, state-of-the-art fabrication equipment and has substantial production work underway.
Requirements
- Structural steel or heavy metal fabrication shop experience required
- Strong FCAW wire-feed welding experience required
- Experience welding structural carbon steel
- Ability to read structural steel shop drawings
- Ability to read and understand weld symbols
- Strong understanding of fit-up, joint preparation, welding sequence, and weld quality
- Ability to perform consistent production welding during long shifts
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced structural steel fabrication environment
- Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their welding ability as part of the hiring process
Responsibilities
- Perform FCAW wire-feed welding on structural steel components and fabricated assemblies
- Weld beams, columns, plate, structural shapes, connections, and other fabricated steel components
- Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and fabrication drawings
- Read and understand weld symbols and welding requirements
- Set and adjust welding equipment appropriately for the work being performed
- Perform multi-pass welds as required
- Inspect welds and completed work for quality and conformance
- Identify and correct welding defects when necessary
- Perform grinding, cleaning, preparation, and related fabrication work
- Work closely with fitters and other shop personnel to maintain production flow
- Maintain productivity while consistently producing quality welds
- Follow established welding procedures, quality requirements, and safety practices
- Maintain welding equipment and work area
