About The Position
The Structural Steel Quality Inspector checks structural steel components throughout the fabrication process in an AISC-certified facility. The role verifies dimensions, reviews drawings, documents quality issues, and confirms that finished materials meet required specifications and industry standards. The position is shop-based and requires no travel. Candidates should be comfortable working in a facility-based structural steel fabrication environment.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in steel layout and fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, construction drawings, and shop prints.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Nice To Haves
- Experience inspecting fabricated structural steel components.
- AWS welding certification in D1.1 and/or D1.5.
Responsibilities
- Perform and document daily inspections of fabricated steel in an AISC-certified facility.
- Inspect structural steel components for compliance with shop drawings, dimensions, and specifications.
- Verify part placement, layout, and dimensional accuracy.
- Complete in-process and final quality inspections.
- Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming materials or workmanship.
- Support annual AISC quality control audits.
- Work with production personnel to resolve inspection findings and improve product quality.
- Follow established inspection procedures and quality standards, including applicable AWS D1.1 and D1.5 requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
