Structural Steel Erector / Iron Worker Welder
About The Position
Summit City Steel Erection is hiring craftsmen at every level, from entry-level to experienced foremen. We self-perform structural steel erection, pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) construction, crane services, and millwright work across Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. We own our fleet, invest in our people, and provide steady, year-round work. We are an ISNetworld-approved contractor pursuing AISC Certified Erector and IAS AC478 accreditation, with two AWS Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) on staff. Our belief is that safety, quality, and productivity compound.
Requirements
- Willingness to work hard and work safe.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel to jobsites in IN, MI, IL, and OH.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Valid driver's license.
- Welders: test-ready skills and your own hood.
Nice To Haves
- Experience from entry-level to seasoned foremen.
- CDL.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
- AWS D1.1 certification for welders.
- PEMB experience with Nucor, Butler, Chief, Kirby, or American Buildings.
- For foreman roles: proven ability to run crews, hold a schedule, and own safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Structural steel erection including columns, beams, girders, bar joists, roof and floor decking, bridging, bracing, miscellaneous metals, anchor bolt setting, stairs, handrails, ladders, and platforms.
- Pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) installation including primary frame, secondary framing, wall and roof sheeting, insulation, vapor barrier, trim, flashing, closures, gutters, downspouts, roof curbs, equipment supports, doors, windows, louvers, and accessories. Also includes re-skin, re-roof, and PEMB repair work.
- Crane services and industrial/millwright work including operating Liebherr MK 140-5.1 self-erecting tower cranes, hydraulic mobile cranes, and boom trucks.
- Performing critical picks and engineered lift planning.
- Heavy industrial structural repair and equipment installation.
- Working in SDI/steel mill environments, plant shutdowns, and turnarounds.
- Structural welding using FCAW, SMAW, GMAW.
- Field welding.
