About The Position

AEP Manufacturing Administrative Services, LLC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Structural Steel Detailing Manager to lead the detailing department within our Turnkey Processing Solutions, LLC subsidiary. This leadership role is responsible for managing all structural steel detailing activities from project award through fabrication release while ensuring the highest standards of quality, accuracy, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The Detailing Manager will oversee SDS2 modeling and detailing operations, lead a team of detailers and designers, and serve as the primary liaison between engineering, project management, fabrication, construction, and customers. As part of the AEP family of companies, we provide in-house engineering, detailing, fabrication, manufacturing, and construction services. Our vertically integrated structure allows us to deliver complete industrial and structural solutions while maintaining exceptional quality and schedule performance. The Structural Steel Detailing Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, execution, and quality of all detailing activities supporting structural steel fabrication projects. This individual will manage departmental resources, establish/maintain detailing standards, oversee project workloads, mentor detailing personnel, and ensure that all fabrication packages are delivered accurately and on schedule. The Detailing Manager will leverage SDS2 and BIM technologies to drive efficiency, reduce fabrication errors, improve constructability, and support successful project execution. The ideal candidate brings a combination of technical detailing expertise, fabrication knowledge, project coordination experience, and proven leadership abilities. TPS is a multi disciplinary EPC contractor focused on industrial construction and design. A high level of coordination will be required in this role with our mechanical design team and or outside equipment vendors in specialized applications where structures have incorporated mechanical equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Construction Technology, or related field; or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of structural steel detailing experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of detailing leadership, supervisory, or project coordination experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with SDS2 Steel Detailing software.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection, and construction processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of AISC, AWS standards and structural steel detailing practices.
  • Experience managing multiple detailing projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of shop drawing production, erection drawings, BOM development, and CNC output generation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing detailing operations for industrial, mining, material handling, manufacturing, or processing facilities.
  • Experience with coordinating multidisciplinary projects and equipment mounted structures.
  • Experience with Tekla Structures, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, or other BIM software.
  • Knowledge of CEMA, OSHA, MSHA, ASTM, and related industrial standards.
  • Experience supporting AISC-certified fabrication operations.
  • Experience working in a design-build, EPC, or vertically integrated fabrication environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the structural steel detailing department, including Detailer I, Detailer II, Senior Detailers, and Lead Detailers.
  • Establish departmental goals, performance metrics, and workload planning strategies.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop detailing personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support career development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Build succession planning and talent development within the detailing organization.
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign detailing resources across multiple projects.
  • Monitor detailing schedules to ensure deliverables support project milestones and fabrication requirements.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to align detailing schedules with procurement, fabrication, and erection requirements.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedules and profitability.
  • Monitor detailing productivity, labor utilization, and departmental performance metrics.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency and execution.
  • Oversee development of SDS2 models, shop drawings, erection drawings, and fabrication packages.
  • Review models for coordination with mechanical equipment for mounting, access, maintenance, guarding, etc.
  • Ensure detailing practices comply with AISC standards, project specifications, customer requirements, and company standards.
  • Review and approve fabrication documents prior to release.
  • Ensure proper connection detailing and constructability considerations are incorporated into models.
  • Lead drawing reviews, coordination meetings, and technical discussions.
  • Maintain detailing standards, templates, best practices, and quality procedures.
  • Support implementation of BIM and model-based workflows.
  • Serve as the primary detailing contact for customers, engineers of record, architects, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and ongoing coordination reviews.
  • Manage RFIs, approval drawing processes, and revision control.
  • Coordinate closely with fabrication, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, and construction teams.
  • Resolve technical issues that impact fabrication, erection, or project schedules.
  • Support customer satisfaction through responsive communication and high-quality deliverables.
  • Ensure fabrication drawings are optimized for shop production efficiency.
  • Coordinate with fabrication leadership to minimize rework and improve constructability.
  • Oversee generation of CNC, DSTV, KISS, and other machine-ready production files.
  • Participate in production reviews and problem-solving efforts as required.
  • Support field construction teams with detailing-related technical issues.
  • Perform site visits when required to support project execution.
  • Establish and maintain detailing quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Conduct detailed reviews and audits of modeling and drawing standards.
  • Ensure drawing accuracy, material accuracy, and fabrication readiness prior to release.
  • Track and reduce detailing errors, fabrication rework, and field fit-up issues.
  • Promote best practices that enhance safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
