About The Position

AEP Manufacturing Administrative Services, LLC has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Structural Steel Detailer I, II to join our team within our Turnkey Processing Solutions, LLC subsidiary. Reporting directly to the Detailing Manager, this position plays a critical role in transforming engineering and design concepts into fabrication-ready models and drawings that support our industrial construction, material handling, and processing projects. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Civil Technology, Construction Technology, or related discipline; or equivalent industry experience.
  • 1-5 years of structural steel detailing experience.
  • Proficiency with SDS2 Steel Detailing software.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Working knowledge of AISC standards and steel detailing best practices.
  • Experience developing fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and CNC output files.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial facilities, mining, aggregates, bulk material handling systems, or conveyor structures.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, Tekla Structures, or other BIM/modeling software.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, ASME, CEMA, MSHA, and OSHA standards.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously in a fabrication-driven environment.
  • Experience with coordinating multidisciplinary projects and equipment mounted structures.
  • Previous exposure to design-build or EPC project environments.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain detailed SDS2 3D models for structural steel systems and support structures.
  • Produce fabrication-ready shop drawings, erection drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of material.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, design calculations, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Develop accurate structural steel connections and detailing solutions in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Ensure models and drawings are optimized for fabrication efficiency and field constructability.
  • Coordinate detailing activities with engineering, project management, fabrication, construction, and customer teams.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, coordination reviews, and design discussions.
  • Identify and resolve design inconsistencies, constructability concerns, and fabrication challenges.
  • Support RFIs, submittal reviews, revision management, and drawing updates throughout project execution.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to maintain project schedules.
  • Review models for coordination with mechanical equipment for mounting, access, maintenance, guarding, etc.
  • Generate CNC, KISS, DSTV, and other machine-ready data required for fabrication operations.
  • Prepare fabrication reports, material takeoffs, and production documentation.
  • Support shop personnel by answering detailing-related questions and implementing drawing revisions when required.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve detailing standards, fabrication workflows, and overall project efficiency.
  • Perform self-checking and participate in peer reviews to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with company standards, customer specifications, AISC requirements, and applicable industry codes.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and revision records.
  • Contribute to the development of detailing standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Mentor junior detailers and provide technical support when appropriate.
