About The Position

The Structural Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the College’s structures and fixtures. This position involves a combination of carpentry, masonry, painting, and general building maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing campus environment. The ideal candidate is skilled in various construction and repair techniques, with a focus on both reactive and proactive maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Journey level accomplishment in the masonry and/or carpentry trades
  • At least 4 years related experience, or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
  • Safety-conscious.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Stamina for extended periods of physical activity.
  • Proven experience in carpentry, masonry, and general construction work.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying paints, stains, and finishes.
  • Familiarity with electrical and plumbing systems for minor repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive mindset in identifying and addressing maintenance needs.

Responsibilities

  • Executes repairs on structures and fixtures using wood and related building materials.
  • Performs repairs with concrete, mortar, stone, bricks, CMU, tile, and other related materials.
  • Addresses issues related to wear and tear, damage, or other structural concerns.
  • Applies paints, stains, and finishes to the interior and exterior of buildings and fixtures.
  • Prepares surfaces and selects appropriate materials to achieve a high-quality finish.
  • Conducts minor electrical and plumbing repairs as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to electrical and plumbing systems within the structures.
  • Proactively identifies potential issues with structural elements on campus, elevating to supervisor when appropriate.
  • Performs preventative maintenance to extend the lifespan of buildings and fixtures.
  • Collaborates with other maintenance and facilities staff to develop and implement maintenance schedules.
