About The Position

CFD Research is seeking to hire a structural response modeling and simulation engineer to support multiple projects. This individual will conduct thermo-structural response analysis of composite materials and structures under a variety of conditions and environments relevant to high-speed flight systems using tools such as Abaqus. Analysis tasks will consist of both linear and highly nonlinear problems due to integration of advanced techniques related to transient loads and contact interactions, as well as progressive damage models. In addition to delivering timely results, the individual will work with a team of engineers, scientists, and software developers to research, develop, and demonstrate novel approaches to advance the state-of-the-practice in structural response modeling of carbon-based composite materials and structures.

Requirements

  • At least two years of relevant industry and/or research experience with physics-based modeling and simulation
  • Experience with Abaqus
  • Experience with nonlinear structural analysis
  • Experience with failure modeling of composite materials (e.g., common techniques for fracture propagation)
  • Experience with common Aerospace industry materials and practices for designing flight vehicles
  • Demonstrated capability using Python, C/C++, or Fortran for analysis setup and execution (e.g., batch pre- and post-processing)
  • Experience presenting to customers
  • Candidate should be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to work for any employer.
  • Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (An active security clearance is preferable.)
  • Be available to work in Huntsville, AL

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of Abaqus input file (keyword) format
  • Experience in material science and/or chemistry is a plus
  • Experience with composite materials micro-mechanics or multiscale modeling approaches
  • Experience with structural dynamics and thermal analysis, transient loading, nonlinear implicit and explicit analysis
  • Experience with modeling of material constitutive response using user subroutines
  • Experience with CFD codes, multi-physics analysis
  • Experience with additional DoD/Industry standard FEM tools

Responsibilities
