About The Position

Gresham Smith is seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join their Building Engineering team, with a focus on experience with large industrial projects. This role requires the ability to support Business Development Principals and act as the primary technical representative for the firm in securing consulting services for industrial clients. The position involves preparing professional proposals for structural consulting services and requires a strong ability to communicate technical issues and service offerings concisely to clients to gain their confidence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of job-related experience required.
  • Experienced in design with structural steel, conventional and post-tensioned concrete, masonry, high wind and seismic design.
  • Experience using various structural design software tools; i.e. RISA, RAM, Navis Manage, Tedds, RetainPro, Adapt-Building.
  • Must have P.E. licensure.

Nice To Haves

  • Up to 10 years of structural design and consulting experience.
  • Project Management or Operational experience a plus.
  • S.E. license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate structural engineering work.
  • Conceptualize the initial structural design approach for significant projects.
  • Mentor and lead team members while simultaneously performing the structural engineering for projects.
  • Prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications for major projects.
  • Design and produce engineering drawings based on calculations.
  • Check, interpret and revise engineering drawings.
  • Conceive, plan and conduct research in complex problem areas.
  • Prepare and review preliminary and final plans and technical specifications, contract documents and estimates, and make recommendations for additions, deletions and substitutions when modifications are necessary.
  • Participate in contract bidding and construction administration services.
  • Provide leadership and manage structural design job functions to designated engineers and designers and supervise their efforts in completing projects on time within budget.
  • Guide the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State and County officials and other outside agencies.
  • Coordinate projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff.
  • Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to project.
  • Resolve a variety of complex problems (e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
