Structural Project Engineer

Thornton Tomasetti•New York, NY

About The Position

Thornton Tomasetti’s Applied Science practice combines structural engineering, computational simulation, and applied research to solve complex problems across civilian and government applications. The Structural Project Engineer will apply and develop expertise in finite element modeling (FEM) and analysis, taking on a technical and coordination role in delivering innovative solutions. The position involves owning complex design challenges, guiding junior engineers, coordinating multidisciplinary technical tasks, and contributing to client-facing work. The engineer will work on structural analysis, design, and detailing for critical infrastructure applications; develop and evaluate finite element models to investigate structural behavior; assess vulnerability to extreme loads; and help develop solutions that improve structural performance. The role also supports the quality and communication of project deliverables, including calculations, reports, drawings, data visualizations, and presentations. This position supports US Government projects. Project staff must be able to secure US security clearance, which requires US citizenship.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of professional structural engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, Revit, and Rhino.
  • Experience designing steel and concrete systems.
  • Demonstrated interest in finite element modeling.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Must be able to secure US security clearance; US citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves
