About The Position

The Boeing Company, specifically Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), is seeking a Structural & Payload Design Engineer to join their team in El Segundo, CA. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to interpret requirements, define interfaces, and develop innovative integrated assembly designs using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools like PTC Creo. The engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, modifying, and interpreting space structure engineering documentation, ensuring designs adhere to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards. The position also entails actively supporting design for manufacturing, integration reviews, and process improvements by leveraging previous designs, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. Furthermore, the engineer will provide support throughout the fabrication, integration, and testing phases of structure products at both supplier and in-house facilities, and will be involved in creating, dispositioning, and resolving anomalies related to assembly integration and structure hardware across the product lifecycle. Experienced and Senior/Lead Engineers are expected to work independently under general direction.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
Ability to obtain a U.S. Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final Clearance Post-Start is required.
3+ years of experience developing 3D CAD models and/or drawings (for Level 3)
3+ years of experience working with cross-functional or cross-organizational teams to develop and/or support structure products (for Level 3)
Experience working within a fast-paced team environment which required strong communication skills to frequently interact with Program Leadership, internal and external customer representatives and development teams
This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required.

Nice To Haves

5+ years of related systems design and integration experience, or equivalent education and experience (for Level 4)
10+ years of related systems design and integration experience, or equivalent education and experience (for Level 5)
9+ years of experience using Creo CAD tools
9+ years of applied experience in developing and providing instruction of technical documentation and training material for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
9+ years of experience with space platform structures or subsystems design and integration
Active TS/SCI level clearance

Responsibilities

Collaborate with cross functional teams to interpret requirements, define interfaces and develop innovative integrated assembly designs using thorough design layouts to produce engineering definition documents
Develop, maintain, modify and interpret space structure engineering documentation using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools (PTC Creo), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T – ASME Y14.5M) standards and/or other design methods
Actively support design for manufacturing, integration reviews and process improvements by reviewing previous designs/lessons learned, regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and/or contracts in order to produce higher quality and more efficient detail designs and integration
Provide engineering support throughout fabrication, integration and test of structure products at suppliers and in-house facility
Create, disposition, and drive to closure anomalies related to assembly integration and structure hardware throughout product lifecycle
Support management of the engineering project by providing status and following the project plan
Experienced and Senior/Lead Engineers work independently under general direction
