About The Position

VHB’s Wethersfield, Connecticut team is seeking a Structural Design Intern for Summer 2027. The intern will work with a dynamic team across diverse disciplines and gain exposure to projects of varying sizes and scopes. The role supports engineering analysis and design, project documentation, construction planning, bridge and structure studies, estimating, and field investigations. VHB describes its work environment as collaborative and inclusive, with a flexible, hybrid work environment. Housing is not provided for internships.

Requirements

• Be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• Have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Be able to manage multiple tasks independently and interact positively and appropriately with teammates.
• Be willing to support different engineering disciplines.
• Be self-motivated and attentive to detail.
• Have good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Be team-oriented and capable of working independently.

Responsibilities

• Interact effectively with VHB teammates to advance projects in a timely manner.
• Assist with engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation.
• Assist with conceptual, preliminary, and final construction plans.
• Assist with structure type studies, scoping studies, and alternatives analyses.
• Assist with bridge scoping studies and alternatives analysis.
• Perform quantity take-offs and calculations for construction estimates.
• Perform field investigations and collect data for new and ongoing projects.
