About The Position

The Structural Combo Fitter / Welder assembles structural framework, components and materials such as angle iron, I-beams and other steel components within the Englobal Fabrication and Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Integration Shop. This role involves laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to blueprint and layout specifications, utilizing various welding processes including GMAW (Mig), FACW (Flux Core), and/or SMAW (Stick). The position requires maintaining a positive work atmosphere, performing daily cleaning and maintenance of the work area, and working in a safe and conscientious manner. Additional duties may include assisting with inventory, operating a crane, fitting mill to bear stiffeners, operating grinding equipment, using cutting and heating torches, checking and correcting camber and sweep tolerances of girders and beams, tack welding in all positions, grinding parts, torquing bolts, and operating mechanical and manual cutting equipment. The goal is to produce a finished product that meets recognized standards, codes, and customer expectations by adhering to quality procedures and practices within the guidelines of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances. The role also includes identifying potential hazards and making necessary corrections, and reading and interpreting weld symbols on shop drawings and prints.

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in structural welding and fitting
  • Must be able to pass a structural fitter test (45 degree cut out I Beam with torch)
  • Must be able to pass a structural welder test (3G on 1/2” carbon steel plate)
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing
  • Turning, twisting, bending and balancing
  • Pushing, pulling and reaching
  • Must be able to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to blueprint and layout specifications
  • Use various processes including GMAW (Mig), FACW (Flux Core) and / or SMAW (Stick)
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by functioning and communicating in an effective manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors
  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of area
  • Work in a safe and conscientious manner
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to, cleaning, trash/ scrap removal and other production related jobs
  • Assist in yearly audited inventory process
  • Perform basic crane operation
  • Properly fit mill to bear stiffeners
  • Operate various pieces of grinding equipment for extended periods
  • Operate cutting and heating torches and perform accurate simple heat corrections
  • Check camber and sweep tolerances of girders and beams with minimal assistance and be able to effectively make necessary corrections per pertinent codes and specifications
  • Tack weld in all positions using multiple welding processes
  • Grind parts, torque bolts and operate mechanical and manual cutting equipment
  • Produce a finished product that meets recognized standards, codes and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures and practices within the guidelines of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances
  • Identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections
  • Read and interpret weld symbols on shop drawings and prints and apply information accordingly
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
