About The Position

American Buildings - Illinois located in El Paso, IL is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Structural Fabricator Teammate. This role involves performing various fit-up, tacking, and welding operations on structural assemblies, adhering to weld standards and procedures. The fabricator will add components like stiffeners and brackets using blueprints for precise location before finish welding. They will utilize tools such as clamps, jigs, tape measures, squares, arc air gougers, cutting torches, and plasma cutters, employing procedures, best practices, and good judgment to prevent warping and misalignment. The position also includes operating overhead cranes, maintaining records, inspecting for and reporting operational issues, and keeping the work area clean and orderly. A commitment to teamwork and safety is essential, as is adherence to all safety rules and regulations and quality standards. Teammates in this position have averaged $85,000 annually, with compensation averaging $25-$37/hour on a bonus structure. This position is eligible for weekly and annual bonuses, and all Nucor teammates qualify for profit sharing, which has averaged 20% of eligible earnings over the last five years.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass AWS welding and Canadian certification.
  • Ability to read tape measure, square, and blueprint readings.
  • Ability to work 10 - 12 hour shifts.
  • Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding back ground; operational understanding and knowledge of standard welding practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various fit up, tacking, and welding operations on a variety of structural assemblies.
  • Weld and follow all weld standards and procedures.
  • Add stiffeners, brackets, face plates, etc. using prints for location prior to finish welding.
  • Use clamps, jigs, tape, square, arc air gouger, cutting torch and plasma as required using procedures, best practices and good judgment to prevent warping and misalignment of component parts.
  • Operate overhead cranes.
  • Maintain required records and documentation.
  • Inspect, detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper leadership.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
