About The Position
The client is a growing custom metal fabrication shop based in Buffalo, New York, specializing in structural fabrication and wastewater treatment projects. The company operates with a lean team and is looking to add an experienced Estimator to increase quoting capacity and work closely with the existing senior estimator as project volume continues to grow. We are seeking a Structural Fabrication Estimator with hands-on experience estimating structural metal fabrication projects. You will be responsible for accurate takeoffs, bid preparation, cost estimation, submittals, revisions, and pre-construction support. This role is ideal for someone who understands complex fabrication projects, can manage multiple bids with strong attention to detail, and is comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
Requirements
- 3+ years of structural fabrication estimating experience
- Strong experience with takeoffs, bid preparation, and cost estimation
- Background in structural steel, custom metal fabrication, or related heavy fabrication
- Strong attention to detail and a proven track record of estimate accuracy
- Fluent English, both written and verbal
- Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote team
- Comfortable learning and working within multiple software platforms and internal systems
- Able to commit to a full-time, 40-hour/week schedule
- Structural fabrication estimating experience is required
- Strong estimate accuracy and attention to detail
- Fluent English communication
- Ability to work remotely and reliably access the client's software and internal systems
- Willingness to work under a month-to-month employment structure
Nice To Haves
- Experience with wastewater treatment projects
- Experience estimating skids, heavy structural projects, or complex custom fabrication
- Experience working on US-based construction or fabrication projects
- Civil engineering degree or equivalent technical/trade experience
- Experience with PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Procore , or similar estimating/construction software
- Previous experience working remotely or with distributed teams
- A portfolio or examples demonstrating accurate, detailed structural fabrication estimates
- Experience handling multiple project types, including wastewater treatment, structural steel, and custom fabrication
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, materials, labor, and project costs
- Proven ability to manage multiple bids without sacrificing accuracy
- Experience working independently in a remote or distributed environment
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed material takeoffs and quantity takeoffs for structural metal fabrication projects
- Prepare accurate estimates, bids, and pricing proposals
- Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements to identify scope and potential cost impacts
- Prepare submittals, revisions, and RFI responses
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, clients, and internal team members
- Communicate with clients and vendors by phone when necessary
- Support pre-construction activities and subcontractor coordination
- Manage multiple estimates and project deadlines simultaneously
- Work within the company's internal job tracking and AI-powered quoting system
- Collaborate remotely with Mark VeRost and the senior estimator to review estimates and maintain pricing accuracy
- Identify potential scope gaps, discrepancies, and estimating risks before bids are submitted
