About The Position
STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Structural Engineering Intern to join its Water/Wastewater team for Summer 2027. The internship is open to undergraduate- and graduate-level students and provides hands-on exposure to structural engineering practices. Interns work alongside experienced structural engineers and contribute to planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout design and construction.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in structural engineering within the water and wastewater industry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with structural analysis or design software, such as finite element modeling tools or Autodesk platforms.
Responsibilities
- Assist with structural design and analysis tasks for water and wastewater facilities under the guidance of licensed engineers.
- Support development of structural plans, layouts, and design concepts.
- Help prepare drawings, sketches, and calculations for construction documents.
- Research design options, codes, and standards applicable to water and wastewater structures.
- Assist with basic calculations, including structure heights and weights, concrete quantities, and equipment fit-up.
- Support cost estimating, including quantity take-offs and gathering vendor information.
- Review shop drawings and technical submittals with oversight from senior staff.
- Participate in project meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Assist with field observations and documentation of existing conditions or construction progress, as needed.
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to support project documentation and analysis.
