About The Position

Kleinfelder's Design team is looking for a Structural Engineer to join their growing team in the Hunt Valley office. This role involves performing engineering tasks in the transportation and structural engineering field, applying design criteria, standards, and processes. The engineer will contribute to structural design projects for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls, including developing design calculations, load ratings, and specifications for new and rehabilitation/repair projects. Field inspections and evaluations in various weather conditions, including working at heights, will also be part of the role, with specialized training provided.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from ABET accredited engineering program
• 0-5 years of design experience in structural engineering field. Relevant internship or co-op experience and/or college coursework will be considered
• The ability and motivation to obtain EIT certification in the first year of employment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with team members and project managers
• Willing to work in the field performing hands-on inspections of transportation structures

Nice To Haves

• EIT Certification is preferred
• Experience with project delivery of State Agency Transportation Department projects is desirable.
• Experience with the design and analysis of transportation structures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, ancillary structures) preferred
• Knowledge of MicroStation is desirable

Responsibilities

• Develop design plans for new transportation structures and for the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and replacement of bridges/culverts and miscellaneous structures that are a part of transportation systems
• Utilize CADD and engineering software to create detailed design plans and technical drawings
• Prepare structural design calculations in compliance with relevant design standards and client preferences
• Perform structural analysis on both new and existing transportation structures using specialized design software
• Prepare construction cost estimates and specifications for various transportation projects
• Participate in field inspections of structures over and adjacent to roadways and water
