About The Position

The Structural Engineer provides structural guidance and technical support across the company, with a primary focus on front-end project support, product application, and system suitability. This role supports internal and external stakeholders in delivering practical, code-compliant, and cost-competitive solutions that support both project pursuit and execution. The role progresses from supporting standard applications and more complex projects under supervision (Level I) to independently supporting a broad range of applications (Level II) and leading complex evaluations, mentoring others, and contributing to product development and strategic efforts (Level III). The position requires strong engineering judgement, particularly in preliminary design efforts where final analysis may be completed by outside firms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or a related field preferred) from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Understanding of structural behavior and material performance, particularly aluminum systems (similar to steel design, same code layout)
  • Ability to interpret building codes, specifications, and technical documentation in a practical application context.
  • Strong engineering judgment, especially in preliminary or partially defined conditions.
  • Ability to balance conservatism, constructability, and competitiveness in recommended solutions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across a range of audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools, spreadsheets, and standard office software.
  • Level I: Entry-level role; develops foundational understanding of systems, applications, and tools. FE exam encouraged.
  • Level II: 3-5 years of relevant structural design experience. Demonstrated ability to independently support a wide range of applications and project conditions; contributes to team effectiveness and supports development of others. Professional licensure encouraged.
  • Level III: Approximately 10+ years of experience with demonstrated subject matter expertise. Recognized technical resource; handles complex or non-standard conditions, mentors others, and contributes to broader organizational and technical initiatives. Professional licensure is beneficial.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced coursework or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of anchorage to steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and other substrates (Levels II-III).

Responsibilities

  • Provide structural guidance for aluminum framing, window, curtain wall, and entrance systems, including preliminary sizing, system selection, and suitability for project-specific conditions.
  • Evaluate project requirements, including loading, geometry, and performance criteria, to determine appropriate system application.
  • Support internal stakeholders including Sales, Estimating, and Architectural Promotion teams with technical input during early project phases.
  • Interpret project specifications, architectural drawings, and design criteria to recommend appropriate products and design approaches.
  • Utilize and contribute to internal design tools, standard details, and application guidelines to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Support project teams with structural review, troubleshooting, and resolution of design-related issues.
  • Perform structural analysis and calculations for select applications, with complexity increasing by level (Level II-III).
  • Review shop drawings and system details for proper application and structural adequacy of framing and anchorage.
  • Coordinate with drafting, project management, and external engineering partners to support project delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Sales, Estimating, Engineering, Project Management, Operations, and Field Service to ensure aligned and practical solutions.
  • Respond to technical inquiries from internal teams and external stakeholders, with increasing involvement in direct customer interaction at higher levels.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide input on system performance, product limitations, and application considerations.
  • Progress from working under guidance (Level I) to independently handling complex situations and guiding others (Level III).
  • Mentor and support the development of less-experienced engineers (Level II–III).
  • Participate in peer review activities to ensure quality and consistency of engineering outputs.
  • At higher levels, support product development, research, and validation efforts as needed.
  • Maintain professional and ethical engineering standards aligned with company values.
