About The Position

Western Partitions, Inc. (WPI) is a leading interior and exterior contracting firm seeking a Structural Engineer. WPI specializes in a wide range of services including drywall, prefabrication, metal studs, acoustical systems, and more. As a cold formed steel contractor with an in-house engineering and design department, this role offers the unique opportunity to collaborate directly with field and operations personnel. The department emphasizes a healthy work-life balance. The primary responsibility of this role will be preparing construction drawings for various projects involving cold formed steel, such as exterior curtain walls, interior partitions and ceilings, prefabricated wall panels, and structural ceilings. The industries served include healthcare, higher education, mission critical data centers, and other commercial construction. This position acts as a bridge between engineering and construction, offering a chance to work more closely with the construction side of the industry.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in engineering design.
  • Prior knowledge or work experience with cold formed steel framing.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal English language communication skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgement, problem-solving ability, self-starting, and ability to prioritize based on relevant factors.
  • Ability to prioritize personal workload and recognize priority conflicts and seek guidance for resolution.
  • Strong familiarity with cold formed steel design, including curtain walls, load bearing walls, floor and ceiling framing, connections, and AISI standards.
  • Strong familiarity with cold formed steel construction methods.
  • Working knowledge of structural steel member and connection design including AISC standards.
  • Familiarity with anchor bolt design according to ACI 318.
  • Familiarity with IBC and ASCE codes.
  • Ability to calculate wind and seismic loads on structures and components.
  • Solid understanding of design software used in office (Currently Revit, CFS Designer, Risa Suite, and others).
  • Ability to read and understand Architectural, Structural, and other trade drawings and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cold formed steel prefabrication or data center construction.

  • Experience with prefabrication and modular construction.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing construction drawings for a wide variety of projects involving cold formed steel.
  • Working directly with project foremen, superintendents, and project managers.
  • Preparing drawings for shop drawing submittals.
  • Working with WPI BIM and drafting team.
  • Preparing calculation packages for submitting to project design team and local jurisdictions.
  • Participating in bid reviews and estimating new projects.
  • Acting as liaison with relevant project professional staff, such as Architect of Record or Engineer of Record.
  • Monitoring and inspecting work in progress to verify systems are built per engineered drawings.
  • Supporting field operations by translating structural drawings and specifications, preparing drawings for site team use, and creating engineered sketches for special inspectors.
  • Progressing knowledge of cold formed steel or other engineering topics.
