Position Summary As a Structural Engineer at HED, you are a licensed professional with 4–8 years of experience, capable of taking a lead technical role on projects of increasing complexity and scope. With a deepening understanding of structural systems and interdisciplinary coordination, you apply strong engineering judgment, design acumen, and project experience to deliver resilient, code-compliant, and efficient structural solutions. You contribute to project execution, mentor junior staff, and help shape innovation and quality across the discipline. This role blends autonomy with collaboration, supporting HED’s mission to create a positive impact through design. Essential Functions: Lead the structural design and documentation for building projects of moderate to large complexity, ensuring technical excellence and coordination across disciplines. Apply licensed engineering expertise to conduct structural analysis and design using tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, and Enercalc. Develop and oversee the creation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports. Serve as a technical resource within project teams, assisting in establishing design direction, solving engineering challenges, and delivering integrated solutions. Coordinate closely with architects, MEP engineers, and civil consultants to ensure consistency and completeness of design across disciplines. Participate in and sometimes lead design meetings, client presentations, and internal coordination sessions. Perform construction administration duties including site visits, RFI and submittal responses, and field reports. Research and implement applicable codes, regulations, and standards to ensure structural compliance and safety. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS, and TMS. Support quality assurance and quality control efforts, including the review of documentation prepared by junior team members. Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, designers, and interns in design processes, tools, and career development. Contribute to discipline-wide standards, tools, innovation initiatives, and research efforts. Engage in HED’s DWP process by tracking time, delegating tasks, and managing junior staff workload. Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Discipline Leader or project lead.
