About The Position

ISL is looking for a Structural Engineer to join their Burnaby BC office. This role involves working on a variety of structural projects related to water and wastewater conveyance and treatment. ISL is a company of over 600 employees, including engineers, technologists, planners, landscape architects, and scientists, who collaborate to deliver infrastructure projects that minimize environmental impacts and maximize community benefits. ISL has expertise in Transportation, Municipal and Community, Bridges, Building and Structures, and Land and Environment sectors. The Buildings and Structures Team at ISL works across Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon.

Requirements

  • Registered as a P.Eng.
  • 6+ years of experience as a structural engineer
  • Experience with municipal water infrastructure (Water and Wastewater treatment facilities and associated structures)
  • Expertise in and application of structural theory, the National Building Code of Canada, and Material Design Standards
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design programs (SAP, SAFE, ETABS, RISA, S-FRAME, etc.)
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects including structural requirements of process equipment and piping

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in a consulting engineering environment
  • Canadian construction field experience
  • Familiarity with architectural systems and specifications
  • Knowledge and use of CSA S6, ACI 350 and CSA 900.2
  • Concrete restoration and steel design experience as well as projects where you are Engineer of Record.

Responsibilities

  • Take work from concept through to design and then to construction – preparing detailed structural engineering designs for a wide variety of projects including water, wastewater, industrial, and municipal structures, and buildings.
  • Review and coordinate deliverables with other project team members including process, mechanical, electrical, civil, architectural, landscape, contractors and suppliers as each project requires.
  • Complete assessments and prepare reports for various structures and buildings.
  • Support construction administration objectives and perform field reviews.
  • Assume responsibility for structural designs as Engineer of Record.
  • Actively participate in project meetings.
  • Observe and maintain quality assurance practices and documentation standards on all projects.
  • Perform peer reviews and design checks of work prepared by others.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals in response to requests for our services.
  • Maintaining client relationships through business development activities.
  • Assemble and review structural deliverables in collaboration with other team members.
  • Review and coordinate deliverables with other multi-disciplinary project team members.
  • Collaborate with, advise, and assist team members in other groups and offices.
  • Actively coach, guide and mentor developing team members.
