Structural Engineer

AutoStore System•Atlanta, GA

About The Position

AutoStore is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer to lead structural design, analysis, and validation for key portions of its robot, grid/cube, charging systems, and related mechanical systems. The role covers the product lifecycle from concept and detailed design through simulation, testing, and production release. The engineer will own structural architecture, load paths, verification, and engineering trade-offs to deliver innovative products that balance strength, stiffness, weight, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost for global deployment. The position involves structural calculations and simulations, finite element analysis (FEA), correlation of analytical predictions with physical test results, root-cause investigations, optimization, and verification through analytical methods, laboratory testing, and system-level validation. The engineer will work with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing teams, support certification and applicable standards compliance, and help ensure structural integrity through production and product lifecycle changes.

Requirements

  • At least 9 years of experience in structural or mechanical engineering, emphasizing structural analysis and product development.
  • Experience developing and validating structural systems from concept through production.
  • Strong proficiency with finite element analysis tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Workbench, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience performing static, dynamic, vibration, fatigue, modal, and impact analysis of mechanical structures.
  • Strong understanding of load paths, stress and strain analysis, structural optimization, and failure mechanisms.
  • Experience developing, correlating, and validating analytical and FEA models against physical test data.
  • Understanding of material behavior in aluminum extrusions, steel structures, welded assemblies, bolted joints, castings, and machined components.
  • Experience with fatigue life prediction, durability assessment, vibration analysis, and reliability engineering.
  • Experience conducting structural verification through simulation, laboratory testing, and analytical methods.
  • Working knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and best practices, including ISO, Eurocode, ASCE, ASTM, or other applicable standards.
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools such as Ansys, Inventor, Mathcad Prime, and related structural engineering software.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, including technical decision-making, design reviews, problem solving, and mentoring.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, with a hands-on engineering mindset.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing robotics, automation equipment, autonomous systems, material handling equipment, or industrial machinery.
  • Experience with lightweight structural systems, large mechanical assemblies, and high-duty-cycle products.
  • Experience with modal analysis, vibration mitigation, and dynamic loading of moving systems.
  • Experience evaluating floor loading, installation requirements, and operational loads in warehouse environments.
  • Experience working within cross-functional product development teams spanning mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines.
  • Familiarity with point-cloud and reality-capture tools such as Cyclone 3DR.
  • Experience with automated warehouse products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design, analysis, and validation of mechanical systems from concept through detailed design, simulation, testing, and production release.
  • Own structural architecture, load path development, and engineering trade-offs involving strength, stiffness, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Perform structural calculations and static, dynamic, vibration, fatigue, impact, and seismic analyses as required.
  • Develop and validate finite element models and correlate analytical predictions with physical test results.
  • Lead and execute root-cause investigations of structural failures, field issues, reliability concerns, and product performance deviations.
  • Analyze and optimize structural components, assemblies, and systems for strength, stiffness, weight, durability, and service life.
  • Own structural verification using hand calculations, simulation, laboratory testing, and system-level validation.
  • Partner with mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, manufacturing, quality, and systems engineering teams throughout product development.
  • Develop structural solutions for demanding operational environments, repetitive loading, vibration, and long-term field use.
  • Define and execute static load, fatigue, vibration, modal, impact, environmental, and life-cycle testing.
  • Support product certification and ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to maintain structural integrity throughout production and product lifecycle changes.
  • Provide technical leadership through decision-making, design reviews, problem solving, and mentoring.
