CEP Forensic is seeking a top-notch Structural Engineer for their Calgary office. This role involves tackling complex scenarios and solving mysteries backed by scientific reasoning. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of building science engineering and its application in failure investigations. Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in civil, building science or architectural science engineering and P. Eng. designation.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience of failure and damage analysis, design, construction, maintenance of structures and building envelope systems of commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings and infrastructure.
  • Concern for efficiency and strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Curiosity, good judgment, sense of initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to write clear and concise investigation reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and commitment to staying current with industry developments and continuous professional development.
  • A sense of humor that can brighten up people around you.
  • A deep understanding of the power of laughter and its ability to make even the toughest of cases seem less daunting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage building science and structural failure investigations and determine root and cause of the failure and damage to buildings, foundations, structures, and building envelope systems.
  • Attend client meetings and on-site inspections, perform surveys and condition assessments and gather evidence.
  • Review technical documentation including drawings, standards, codes, regulations, material specifications, maintenance records, modifications records, etc.
  • Perform Provincial Codes and Standards compliance analysis and reviews.
  • Determine circumstances surrounding the incident by capturing data, photographs, videos, and interviewing parties associated with the incident.
  • Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court if required.
  • Collaborate with other experts and practice leads to deliver holistic and robust analytical reports to clients.
  • Provide expert testimony in the court, if required.
  • Coach and mentor early career technical staff to support their professional development.
  • Assist with new business development and represent the company with professionalism and expertise in client interactions and industry events.
  • Follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.
