About The Position

As a detail-oriented, reliable, creative team-playing Structural Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of various types of architectural and structural projects, from conceptual stages to detailed design. You will work closely with team members, collaborating with clients, architects, engineers, and other consultants. The role requires a combination of creative design thinking, technical proficiency, and an understanding of building codes and construction methods. In addition to design of new structures, you’ll also be required to conduct field evaluations of industrial and commercial structures, analyze data, develop models, conduct calculations, and develop engineered repair/rehabilitation/replacement plans for existing structures and those we are expanding.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil / Structural Engineering
  • 5-8 yrs Structural Engineering
  • SE License in Illinois, or ability to obtain through reciprocity within one year of start date.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD important.
  • Experience coordinating engineering work and interfacing with other disciplines and clients.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for markups, document management and collaboration
  • Knowledge of ACI 318, AISC, ASCE-7, IBC required.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure in other states a plus.
  • Revit is a plus.
  • Experience using structural software such as RISA 3D, STAAD and Enercalc is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field evaluation of existing structures
  • Perform site visits to collect information needed for engineering design.
  • Assist in the development of structural designs from initial concepts through to construction documentation.
  • Design repair / rehabilitation and/or replacement plans
  • Develop calculations and analytical models in hot rolled and cold formed steel, concrete, masonry and wood.
  • Design for concrete shallow foundations, deep foundations, industrial steel structures (beams, columns, bracing, connections etc.) and other structures expected in an industrial or commercial facility.
  • Design of reinforcement for existing buildings and structures including conventional and pre-engineered steel building structures as well as wood and steel joists or trusses.
  • Collaborate with design team to refine designs and meet client expectations.
  • Produce accurate structural drawings for alterations, additions or new construction using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate with other design professionals (e.g., internal and external architects, engineers and consultants) to ensure design integration and resolve design issues.
  • Attend client meetings and assist in communication between the design team and clients.
  • Specify materials, write reports
  • Technical support for and quality control of structural construction
  • Stay up-to-date with current trends, materials, and technologies.
  • Conduct research to resolve technical issues and integrate new solutions into the design process.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including architects, engineers, and consultants, internal & external, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Work with outside structural consultants as needed or as work load requires.
  • Provide support in coordination meetings, presenting design ideas and addressing feedback.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture
  • Oversee and serve as Engineer of Record for firm structural engineering portions of projects.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks, as needed by various project requirements.
