About The Position

Exp Federal delivers full-service Architecture & Engineering services, construction, and facility management services throughout the world. Exp Federal's mission is to provide superior technical solutions to the U.S. federal government utilizing skilled personnel familiar with working throughout the United States and overseas. We are seeking a Structural Engineer, PE to join our growing team in Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; or Washington D.C. (Chantilly, VA). Ideal candidates are independent thinkers, self-motivated, communicate proactively, manage tasks with minimal oversight, and enjoy collaborating with other disciplines throughout the design process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis) from an ABET accredited university.
  • 5+ years of relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
  • Demonstrates experience in both vertical and horizontal designs.
  • Strong skills in structural analysis and finite element modeling; ability to learn specialized software as needed.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with federal design projects and Whole Building Design Guide is a plus.
  • Understanding of antiterrorism, force protection, hardening, and blast design is highly sought.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for our positions in accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b.2c.

Nice To Haves

  • Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
  • Experience supporting facilities for Federal Government clients sector is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans and details for foundations, buildings, and structures based on preliminary concepts, sketches, calculations, or verbal instructions.
  • Oversee the creation and manage structural models and project drawings prepared by junior engineers and BIM staff using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Apply knowledge of structural steel, cold-formed steel, reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry, and related drafting conventions.
  • Understand the scope of SD, DD, and CD phases and produce drawings appropriate to each stage.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals during Construction phase and participate in contractor-client conflict resolution.
  • Contributes to the development of cost estimates.
  • Research domestic and international materials, products, and systems to support design decisions and specifications.
  • Conduct safe and accurate site surveys and develop existing conditions documentation.
  • Travels onsite to project fields for client meetings and site inspections and visits: ~25% requirement
