About The Position

Kimley-Horn’s Alpharetta, GA team is seeking a Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join their Solar Structures team. This role involves performing structural analysis and design for rooftop solar systems across large building portfolios, evaluating existing structures for solar loading, and preparing structural calculations and reports. The position requires coordination with various teams, site walks, and managing multiple concurrent projects with quick turnaround times. This is not a remote position and requires willingness to travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • 1+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE 7)
  • Experience with structural analysis software (RAM, RISA, SAP2000 preferred)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be willing to travel

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for rooftop solar systems across large building portfolios
  • Evaluate existing structures for solar loading including gravity, wind, and seismic impacts
  • Prepare structural calculations and standardized reports for high-volume projects
  • Review as-built drawings and field data to assess structural capacity
  • Identify retrofit solutions for solar installation feasibility
  • Coordinate with electrical, civil, and solar teams
  • Coordinate and conduct site walks
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with quick turnaround times
  • Support QA/QC reviews and maintain project documentation
