About The Position

As a Structural Dynamics Engineer at Trane, you will be responsible for designing the equipment and systems that support Trane's mission of creating comfortable, sustainable, and efficient climate solutions. You will work with engineering teams to develop concepts for new and improved commercial HVAC products and help solve complex technical problems, leading to the production of sustainable new products. The primary focus areas of this Structural Dynamics Engineer role include structural integrity, structural dynamics, vibration simulation and testing. You will work closely with various product and technology development teams and with global Engineering support center personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • At least 2-years of work experience in structural dynamics
  • Formal coursework in mechanics of materials, vibration, structural dynamics, numerical simulation methods, digital signal processing
  • Experience in structural engineering design, technical problem-solving with simulation and tests.
  • Knowledge in the design, testing, and optimization for dynamics of machinery.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, communication and project management skills
  • Must be able to work on multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience with ANSYS, Siemens SimCenter or Siemens Test.Lab
  • Knowledge and experience in correlating simulation models and test data
  • Experience in data acquisition systems, both hardware and software, as well as mechanical strain measurement
  • Experience with HVAC products, compressors, fans and sheet metal structures

Responsibilities

  • Lead and carry out the advancement of the Acoustics & Mechanics Engineering function, encompassing technology in both computational and experimental tools and methodologies applicable to Commercial HVAC products.
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise work related to developing structural and structural dynamic simulation models, including prediction of structural modes, dynamic response, stress, strain, deformation, fatigue, etc. using finite element (FEA) and/or other methods.
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise various structural and structural dynamic tests, including structural modal analysis, steady state and transient vibration, rotating machinery, strength tests, component fatigue, data collection and analysis.
  • Correlate simulation or other prediction models with test data to improve prediction accuracy and validate models.
  • Develop and improve standard work and design guidelines related to structural design, simulation, testing, and similar work.
  • Work closely with product engineers to design reliable and durable products.
  • Work closely with test engineers and technicians, including understanding and prioritizing test requests, designing and proposing appropriate tests, discussing and supervising test implementations, assuring data validity and interpretation, and documenting work in formal reports.
  • Act as a member of various product and technology development teams to design reliable and durable products.
  • Support and successfully accomplish annual corporate objectives for individuals and teams.
  • Effectively utilize personal project management techniques and utilize available technical skills and resources necessary for success.
  • Work closely with and mentor other engineering resources globally.
