Structural Drafter I
About The Position
As a Structural Drafter specializing in wood frame and mass timber buildings, your primary responsibility will be to design, analyze, and evaluate the structural components and systems of residential and commercial structures constructed primarily using wood, timber, and mass timber framing. You will collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering professionals to ensure the safe and efficient performance of wood frame buildings. Your expertise will contribute to the successful completion of construction projects while adhering to relevant building codes and industry standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical training in drafting, engineering, or related field
- 2+ years’ experience as a drafter or similar role
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Detail-oriented with strong visualization skills
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree in drafting, engineering, or related field
- AutoCAD professional certification
- 4+ years experience as a drafter or similar role
- Proficiency in REVIT, Navisworks, or with other BIM software
- Familiarity with building codes and standards
- Working knowledge of construction methods and materials
Responsibilities
- Prepare drawings of building structures using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.
- Develop models of wood and timber buildings to be used in design, assembly, fabrication, or manufacture.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other construction professionals to ensure accuracy of drawings.
- Revise drawings based on feedback from clients, engineers, and architects.
- Research building codes and other regulations to ensure drawings meet all applicable standards.
- Generate three-dimensional (3D) models of proposed structures to aid in design and construction.
- Use CAD software to create both 2D and 3D drawings.
- Prepare detailed plans and drawings for development of complete structural contract documents, including foundations and framing.
- Stay up to date on advances in CAD software and technology to maintain a high level of proficiency.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other designers to ensure accuracy and feasibility of designs.
- Adhere to all company drafting standards and procedures.
