About The Position

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Structural Discipline Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience for their Spokane office. This role involves leading structural design for commercial building projects, managing projects from early design through construction, developing and reviewing analysis models and design documents, and coordinating with architects, owners, and contractors. The engineer will also provide construction administration support, mentor junior staff, and strengthen client relationships. Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil or Structural engineering required.
  • Registration as a P.E. required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the structural design of buildings or similar structures.
  • Experience with computer analysis software systems.
  • Excellent leadership, supervisory, and writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong team of professionals and support staff within a cooperative multidiscipline office performing at a high level of satisfaction to clients.
  • Design experience with various materials, including steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and light gauge steel and their associated design standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in structural engineering preferred.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred. Candidates not licensed as an SE will be expected to pursue and pass the SE exam within an agreed timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from early design through construction.
  • Develop and review analysis models and design documents.
  • Coordinate closely with architects, owners, and contractors.
  • Provide clear, timely construction administration support.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Help strengthen client relationships through reliable execution and collaborative teamwork.
  • Perform and oversee structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial building projects including complex gravity and lateral systems.
  • Interpret ambiguous code provisions and justify design decisions.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and profitability of projects.
  • Maintain a working relationship with clients.
  • Conduct marketing/business development activities including proposal writing and contract negotiations.
  • Provide and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control plans.
  • Provide review of construction documents.
  • Propose practical, buildable solutions, understanding the realities of construction.
