About The Position

EXP is seeking a Structural Designer/Engineer for buildings projects, specifically in Aviation, Transit, and Mission Critical sectors. The role is part of the Building Structures team, reporting to the Director of Building Structures, and will be located in the Chicago office. The team executes projects across the United States and US Territories, with potential support for non-US based teams. The successful candidate will collaborate with a diverse in-house team and subconsultants, working on various project types including mission-critical buildings, aviation, light passenger rail facilities, and commercial building design. Mentoring and career development opportunities with experienced team members are available.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of targeted experience with a focus on building design.
  • Solid understanding of various structural analysis software such as RAM, RISA, ETABS.
  • Strong Revit skills in both modeling and sheet creation.
  • Working towards EIT.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures and/or relevant advanced coursework is considered a minimum requirement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write persuasively and communicate technical subject matter concisely and comprehensibly to a less technical audience.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional Revit skills such as family creation, knowledge of parameter use, and templates.
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take direction from senior engineers and project leads.
  • Perform calculations, sketches, and drawing production.
  • Create specifications.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines.
  • Conduct observations and evaluate existing conditions in the field and from historical drawings.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently, coordinating work between multiple EXP offices and outside consultants.
  • Occasional short-term travel to project sites (usually one or two nights at a time).
