About The Position
Brown Federal Services is seeking an experienced Structural Design Engineer to support engineering activities at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, South Carolina. This is a senior-level engineering position supporting the design, analysis, and construction oversight of structural systems within nuclear and industrial facilities. The ideal candidate will bring extensive structural engineering experience, strong knowledge of applicable national codes and standards, and hands-on experience performing structural analysis and design for complex facilities.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in an applicable engineering or science discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in an applicable engineering or science discipline with at least 8 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering or science discipline with at least 10 years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering OR current Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities
- Demonstrated experience with structural engineering design and analysis
- Working knowledge of STAAD
- Working knowledge of applicable national codes and standards, including: IBC, AISC (including ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, OSHA
- Experience analyzing structural systems for static and dynamic loads
- Experience with concrete and structural steel design
- Experience with foundation and anchorage design
- Ability to develop, review, and document complex engineering calculations and technical solutions
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience supporting DOE, NNSA, nuclear, or other highly regulated facilities
- Proficiency with MicroStation 2D CADD
- Previous Savannah River Site experience
- Professional Engineer registration in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Candidates who have held an active DOE L or Q clearance within the previous two years are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide structural engineering design and construction oversight in support of Savannah River Site projects.
- Perform structural analysis for static and dynamic loading conditions using manual calculations and engineering software.
- Design and evaluate concrete structures and structural systems utilizing steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber, and composite materials.
- Perform foundation and anchorage design and analysis.
- Conduct structural analyses for impact, overpressure, accident conditions, and other complex loading scenarios.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical documentation, reports, recommendations, and CSI specifications.
- Review drawings, vendor documents, specifications, calculations, and other engineering deliverables.
- Apply advanced engineering principles to resolve complex structural and technical challenges.
- Develop engineering solutions that meet applicable project, site, industry, and regulatory requirements.
- Support project planning activities, including schedules, budgets, technical requirements, and resource needs.
- Monitor engineering progress, quality, schedules, and project deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to engineers and other project personnel.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, project management, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Perform field walkdowns to verify existing conditions and support engineering and construction activities.
- Perform engineering services in accordance with Savannah River Site processes, procedures, and programmatic requirements.
