About The Position

Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly motivated Principal Structural Design Engineer to support ongoing operations in Aiken, SC. This role involves defining the scope of technical programs, developing effective solutions to complex challenges, and ensuring quality, timely, and cost-effective results. The Principal Structural Design Engineer will provide technical guidance to less senior professionals and incorporate advanced technical practices into problem-solving and program planning. This position requires leadership in identifying solutions, evaluating program results, and preparing reports. The engineer will also stay informed of technological advancements and prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements. Responsibilities include developing schedules, monitoring progress, managing budgets, and reviewing work quality. Communication of results and objectives to customers, colleagues, and management, including external publications, is expected. Enhancing expertise through local technical societies and demonstrating creativity through patent disclosures, problem-solving, and technical papers are also key aspects of this role. The position will provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks for SRNS, including analysis of structural systems, design of various structures (concrete, steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber, composite), foundation and anchorage design, and structural analysis for accident conditions. Engineering services will be provided using SRNS processes and procedures, with programmatic guidance from SRNS.

Requirements

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of STAAD.
Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA.
Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.

Nice To Haves

Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred.
Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software.
Previous experience working at SRS.
PE license preferred.

Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.
Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.
Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks to SRNS.
Analysis of structural systems for both static and dynamic loads using manual computation and computer programs.
Design of concrete structures; design of steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber and composite structures.
Foundation and anchorage design.
Structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions.
Preparation of CSI specifications; and review of vendor documents.
