Structural/Building Design Technologist Co-op
About The Position
SBM is seeking a Structural/Building Design Technologist Co-op for an 8-month term (may consider 4-month term) starting September 2026 in their London office. The co-op student will support both the structural engineering and building design departments by assisting with the design and drafting of projects in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Responsibilities include producing designs and drawings for permit and construction, working both independently and within a project group to meet design requirements, and taking on special project tasks to improve design procedures. The role also offers opportunities for occasional site visits.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an Architectural Technology Diploma program.
- Eligible for a 4 or 8-month co-op registered through a post-secondary school (8 month preferred).
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective team member.
- Commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth; willingness to learn.
- Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Ability to work both independently with little supervision and in a team environment.
- Knowledge of construction materials and practices.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in design and drafting considered an asset.

Responsibilities
- Become familiar with design guidelines, standards, and regulations associated with building design and structural engineering.
- Accept technical guidance from designers, technologists, and senior staff.
- Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion.
- Coordinate building design & structural aspects of projects with other discipline designs and drawings.
- Complete drawings and documents in conformance with building code and office standards.
- Other tasks as assigned by Structural/ Building Design Lead or Division Manager.
- Occasional site visits as required.
- Comply with all company standards, policies and procedures.
