About The Position

The Boeing Company's Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Space, Intelligence and Weapons Systems (SI&WS), Space Mission Systems (SMS) organization is seeking a Structural Analysis Engineer. This role is available at the Associate (P2), Mid-Level (P3), or Senior (P4) level and is located in El Segundo, California. Space Mission Systems specializes in Space Communications Programs and Government Satellite Systems, aiming to be a preferred partner through innovation and performance. The El Segundo team designs and builds the future of space, and this role will support satellite systems hardware. The engineer will be responsible for the mechanical integrity of space flight and ground support hardware, contributing to both nonrecurring and recurring engineering development on existing and future space hardware, including proposal, engineering development, qualification, build, and test support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • Associate (level 2): Typically, 2 or more years' related work experience
  • Stress analysis or structural analysis experience.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance/SCI for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • A Final Post-Start Top Secret & Special Program Access.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. A “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • Master of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • Experience solving complex problems.
  • Knowledge of at least one scripting language (Python, MATLAB, VBA, etc.).

  • Experience working in a cross functional team environment and leading across engineering and non-engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the engineering statement of work for current and future satellite systems contracts in structural analysis with a focus on first-time quality, on-time engineering, cost, and schedule.
  • Lead development, integration, qualification, and documentation of structural requirements to establish the system design.
  • Coordinate with other engineering groups to establish product environment.
  • Guide product design and verify structural integrity by using and developing analytical methods, finite element models and simulations, and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle to develop the structural environment, characteristics, and performance.
  • Lead development of test plans and configurations, support test execution, and analyze and report test results to validate and verify that systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Define and document certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied.
  • Lead investigations into failures and analyze improvements.
  • Develop analytical processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Support supplier hardware development, production, and test activities to ensure that hardware integrates with design and meets system and vehicle requirements.
  • Perform structural analysis using well defined analysis tools (Patran, Nastran, Apex, Abaqus, HyperMesh, CREO-Simulate, Common Structures Workstation, or other tools) to develop the structural environment, characteristics, and performance.
