About The Position

At the elementary level, this position involves implementing a Suzuki strings program adapted for the public school setting across three elementary schools: Linkhorne Elementary, W. M. Bass Elementary, and Dearington Elementary. The role focuses on providing Suzuki-based group class strings instruction, primarily violin, to K-5 students. The teacher will collaborate with school administrators and classroom teachers to establish a class schedule, work with parents to support student practice, and participate in city-wide string events. Responsibilities also include overseeing the use and care of division-owned instruments and employing effective instructional and classroom management practices. The position is part of the LCS Strings Professional Learning Community.

Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in instrumental music, Prek-12.
  • Bachelors/Masters Degree in music or music education with emphasis in instrumental music.
  • Knowledge of Suzuki-based string instruction methods
  • Knowledge of elementary music education and classroom management practices
  • Skill in teaching group string instruction
  • Skill in collaboration and parent communication
  • Ability to manage instruments and program logistics
  • Ability to contribute positively to professional learning communities

Nice To Haves

  • Suzuki teacher training and SAA membership is strongly encouraged.
  • Experience teaching beginner techniques in all strings instruments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Suzuki-based group class strings instruction, primarily violin, adapted for the public school setting to K-5 elementary students.
  • Work with the school's administrator and classroom teachers to develop a class schedule that provides two thirty-minute group strings lessons per week.
  • Work with parents so that they can assist their children in practice at home.
  • Participate in all city-wide string events, and provide performance opportunities in the school and community.
  • Oversee both the use and care of division-owned instruments.
  • Use effective instructional and classroom management practices.
  • Contribute positively and constructively to the LCS Strings Professional Learning Community.
