About The Position

The Strength & Conditioning Trainer is responsible for developing and maintaining strength and conditioning programs for all eight sports with the goals of improving athletic performance, reducing injuries, and promoting lifelong fitness and movement skills. This position works closely with coaches to assess athletes’ needs and collaborates with sports medicine or athletic training staff when supporting injured athletes in rehabilitation. Responsibilities include designing and implementing science-based training programs, educating student-athletes on proper technique, safety, nutrition, and performance principles, conducting performance testing and data reporting, and maintaining the strength and conditioning facility while establishing policies and procedures for its safe and professional operation. This position receives general direction from the Director of Athletics and exercises no supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Two (2) years of strength and conditioning experience.
  • NSCA CSCS, or CSCCa SCCC Certification.
  • Annual continuing education.
  • First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification.
  • Valid driver's license; must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College's automobile insurance policy.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of strength and conditioning for collegiate athletes.
  • Knowledge of safe exercise techniques, injury prevention, and proper use of strength training equipment.
  • Knowledge of program design for strength, speed, agility, flexibility, and conditioning development.
  • Knowledge of student-athlete development and performance improvement strategies.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and risk management procedures in athletic training environments.
  • Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and best practices related to collegiate athletics programs.
  • Skills in developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs tailored to team and individual athletic performance goals.
  • Skills in supervising and instructing student-athletes in safe and effective strength training techniques.
  • Skills in motivating and mentoring a diverse group of student-athletes to support performance and personal development.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skills in collaborating with coaches, athletic staff, and colleagues to support student-athlete success.
  • Skills in organizing training schedules, monitoring progress, and maintaining program documentation.
  • Ability to supervise and guide student-athletes during training sessions while promoting safety and proper technique.
  • Ability to assess athlete performance and adjust training programs to meet individual and team needs.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with students, coaches, and campus personnel.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and seek clarification when needed.
  • Ability to operate computers and basic Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while supporting the mission and goals of the athletics program.
  • Ability to provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.
