About The Position

St. Agnes Academy is seeking a Strength & Conditioning Coach and Health and PE Teacher for a 12-month contract with a 10-month work period during the school year. This exempt, full-time position operates Monday through Friday, with additional hours for scheduled events. The role involves teaching, inspiring, advising, critiquing, questioning, and counseling young women within the high school academic level, rooted in the Catholic, Dominican tradition. The position emphasizes the development and promotion of the four pillars of a Dominican education: prayer, study, community, and preaching, while modeling Christian values and upholding the Dominican charism. The teacher will foster an active faith community, support spiritual formation, and demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Commitment to embrace the mission of St. Agnes Academy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field, required.
  • Knowledge of exercise physiology, nutrition, and proficiency in teaching proper movement techniques.
  • National Strength & Conditioning Association Certified (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association Certified (SCCC) required. Non-certified hires must obtain the required certification within 12 months of hire date.
  • Working knowledge of athletic programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
  • CPR / AED / First Aid certified.
  • Teaching certificate or twelve credit hours in education courses.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Passion for a Catholic, all-girl’s educational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Completion of Human Sexuality training.
  • Completion of Safe Haven training.
  • Willingness to obtain continuing educations credits as they relate to our curriculum.
  • Willingness to research/adapt curriculum to reflect current research in the field(s) of: nutrition, stress management, drug/alcohol/tobacco, lifestyle diseases.
  • Basic understanding of activities (individual & team) as they relate to PE.
  • Ability to be innovative to keep the PE curriculum current/fun.
  • Knowledge of different learning styles in the classroom & gym, and being adaptive when teaching/coaching.
  • Minimum of a four-year B.A./B.S. degree.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic technology needed for teaching, learning, and communication.
  • Professional attitude, behavior, and appearance.

  • Experience teaching in an independent school and/or an all-girls environment a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Director of Athletics and coaches to design programs tailored to each sports' needs.
  • Responsible for coordination and scheduling of all the daily operations of the weight room.
  • Adhere to all compliance and certifications required to perform safely for St. Agnes Academy.
  • Maintain the weight room, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and organized equipment usage.
  • Be the main conditioning personnel for all athletic program needs as they arise for all seasons and summer. This may require weekends and holidays.
  • Work with the Athletic Trainers and coaches on injury prevention, injury rehabilitation, and recovery.
  • Create, implement, and monitor strength and conditioning workouts tailored for in-season, offseason, and pre-season programs.
  • Collect and maintain records for athletes participating in the school's strength and conditioning program. Provide a longitudinal report to each coach following the administration of performance testing.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting in-service training for coaches in the school so that all may work cooperatively and effectively to implement the program.
  • Lead, teach, and supervise proper lifting techniques, speed, agility, and conditioning workouts.
  • Conduct performance testing to measure progress and adjust training plans based on data.
  • Meet regularly with sport coaches to align training with team goals and sport-specific needs.
  • Report any areas of concern and non-compliance to the Director of Athletics.
  • Promote safe work practices.
  • May be required to work flexible hours including late evenings.
  • Support and adhere to school policies in all areas of the school’s operation.
  • Represent and promote the school in a positive manner at various school events. (Athletics contests, College Signing Day, Athletics Awards Ceremonies, Graduation, etc.).
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust strategies.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in department, school and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments in a timely fashion and update systems accordingly.
  • Communicate and partner with parents in a timely manner.
  • Participate in student/faculty activities (such as retreats, lunch duty, faculty meetings, in-service activities).
  • Follow school emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Athletics, Principal, Head of School.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Follow the faculty expectations outlined in faculty handbook.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Be familiar and enforce student handbook policies.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust strategies.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in department, school and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
