The Strength & Conditioning Coach plays a critical role in the development, preparation, and long-term success of assigned Olympic Sport programs through the design and implementation of evidence-based, sport-specific training programs. Working under the direction of the Director of Strength & Conditioning for Olympic Sports, this coach will lead all aspects of physical preparation for assigned teams, developing programs that enhance strength, power, speed, endurance, movement quality, and overall athletic performance while reducing injury risk. The successful candidate will possess advanced expertise in strength, power, and speed development, with the ability to prescribe and progress training interventions that align with the goals of a comprehensive periodized training plan. This position is responsible for designing and executing annual training plans, identifying block training objectives, and selecting exercise prescriptions that drive measurable performance outcomes. A strong commitment to athlete monitoring and performance-health management is essential, as load management and athlete response tracking are integral components of the coaching process. Beyond program design and coaching, the Strength & Conditioning Coach serves as a key collaborator within Notre Dame’s performance ecosystem. Success in this role requires the ability to build strong working relationships with sport coaches, sports medicine staff, performance specialists, and administrators to create an integrated approach to athlete development. The ideal candidate is an energetic, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced, team-centered environment and is passionate about maximizing athletic performance through exceptional coaching, communication, and service. Daily responsibilities also include maintaining a safe, organized, and professional training environment through ongoing weight room upkeep and equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, or a related field.
  • Current certification through either the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCCA).
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Two or more years of full-time strength and conditioning experience at the NCAA Division I, professional, or international level, preferably in a range of Sports.
  • Experience designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for collegiate, professional, or elite-level athletes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of periodization, athlete monitoring, load management, speed development, and injury risk reduction strategies.
  • Strong coaching and teaching skills with the ability to effectively instruct and motivate student-athletes.
  • Familiarity with athlete management systems, force plate & other testing technologies, and other performance-monitoring tools.
  • Experience collaborating within an integrated high-performance model alongside sports medicine, nutrition, sport psychology, and sport science professionals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and staying current with evidence-based training methods
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with coaches, sports medicine staff, administrators, and student-athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for assigned Olympic Sport teams in conjunction with the Notre Dame way
  • Develop and manage comprehensive periodized training plans, including block objectives and exercise prescription.
  • Coach and supervise training sessions focused on improving strength, power, speed, endurance, movement quality, and injury resilience.
  • Monitor training load and athlete responses to optimize performance and support athlete health.
  • Collaborate effectively with coaches, sports medicine professionals, performance staff, and administrators.
  • Utilize current best practices and evidence-based methods in athlete development and performance enhancement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe training environment, including daily weight room maintenance and equipment oversight.
